Hi Folks!

I am starting to get more and more calls about virus and malware problems from friends and others, and as I am working full time , I don’t have the time to deal with these issues, so I decided to put step by step instructions up for you to try on your own. These are the tools I use to clean up computers and they are all free and relatively easy to use.  Of course I have to put up the dreaded….

Disclaimer! You try this at your own risk! Viruses and Malware infect computers in a vast number of different ways. I take no responsibility for any damage done to any one’s computer as the result of following these suggestions. If in doubt, take your computer to a professional!

That being said, you can try the following. Download these four programs and run them in the following order..

#1 CCleaner      |   This the one to download and run first. It will clean up all the trash, or file lint as I like to call it, from your computer. Most importantly, it cleans out your browser temporary files, which will increase the scanning speed of the other programs, and it is a good program to run about once a month to clean out all the crap  you accumulate while surfing the internut.

#2 Avast anti virus       |   Download and install the free version of this. It will ask you if you want to schedule a boot time scan. Say yes, shut down and restart the computer. Let it scan and delete anything it finds, after it is finished it will boot back to windows. If you have a working antivirus, you can still do this step, just uninstall avast afterwards.

#3 Superantispyware     |   Download,install and run this, it will scan your system for spyware, and give you the option of deleting or quarantining anything it finds.

#4 Spybot Search and Destroy     |   I run this one last. Download and install it. It wants to install a program called “Tea timer” Uncheck that option during the install. It is an annoying “nag” program that notifies you of any change to your registry. Don’t really need it.Spybot will want to create a registry backup. Do this. If anything goes wrong you can reinstall the registry and get back up and running.Run Spybot and let it fix anything it finds.

I know this is very time consuming, but just think of the sense of pride you will gain when you can say “I did this!”  Not to mention the sense of “OH NO” as friends and family start showing up at your door with old computers pleading with you to “help me Obiwan! your my only hope!”

After running all of these, your computer should be clean, sleek and running faster! If it is totally hooped and acting like a paper weight, you can always move to Ubuntu Linux! Virus free and… um ….FREE
